Services for W.E. "Bill" Roberts were Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland Luelf, minister of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Mr. Roberts was born January 18, 1930, at Enville, the son of J.A. and Syble Minyard Roberts, and died June 1, 1996, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta.
Mr. Roberts had lived in Marietta since 1969, moving here from California. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Roberts married the former Roxie Fagan April 16, 1950, in Canute. He was the retired owner of Roberts Grocery which he and his wife Roxie operated 25 years. Mr. Roberts was of the Methodist belief.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Syble Roberts of Marietta; his wife, Mrs. Roxie Roberts of the home in Marietta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Lauren Roberts of Marietta and Terry and Becky Roberts of Garland, Texas; two brothers, Jerry Roberts of Mustang and Leo Roberts of Ardmore; and six grandchildren, Jason, Taylor, Terry Lynn, Joshua, Todd and Erica.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his father, J.A. Roberts in 1987; and a brother, Cal Roberts in 1985.
Interment in Lakeview Cemetery was under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Gene Washburn, Don Bone, James Williams, Robert Hughes, Royce Lain and C.E. Treadwell. Honorary bearers included Joe Franklin, Stanley Welch and Joe Bell.
The family has requested that donations be made to the Love County Ambulance Service.
