Graveside services for Rose Tyler Sallee Payne, 93, of Marietta, were held at
10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 13, in the Lakeview Cemetery, with the Rev. Tony
Caro officiating.
Mrs. Payne was born February 11, 1907 in Watonga, Indian Territory, the daughter of William Daniel and Mary Ann Tyler Sallee. She died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Mercy Health Love County in Marietta.
She had lived in Marietta, then moved to Gainesville, Texas, for a
number of years, and returned to Marietta in 1990 to make her home.
She and Edgar A. Payne were married July 17, 1926, in Watonga. Mrs. Payne
was a homemaker and a member of the Mahota Memorial Presbyterian
Church. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Hester
Payne of Roswell, New Mexico, Phillip and Pat Payne of Houston, Texas,
and Sallee and Rose Marie Payne of Midwest City; two daughters and
son-in-law, Nancy and Warren Griffin and Melynda Persons, all of
Marietta; 12 grand-children; 16 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grand-children.
Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar A Payne on
December 14, 1995; a son, Edgar R. Payne in 1987; a daughter, Muriel Ann
Payne in 1936; two brothers and two sisters.
Services were under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
