Services for Patrick "Pat" Oscar Parker, 62, of Leon will be held at 2 p.m. today (Friday), February 15, in the Freeman Auditorium at the Turner School, with the Rev. Ronnie Hill and Rev. Jimmy May officiating.
Mr. Parker was born July 17, 1939, at Leon to Lyndon Oscar and Juanita Anna Jane Holland Parker. Mr. Parker passed away Wednesday morning, February 13, 2002, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta.
A resident of Love County all of his life, he and Wanda Peery were married May 11, 1957, at Wilson. Mr. Parker attended Murray State College at Tishomingo, two years and graduated from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, in 1960. He taught school 32 years, the last 23 years at Turner School, retiring as Vocational Agriculture Instructor in 1992. Mr. Parker was currently working with the OSU Extension Service as a crop inspector. He raised show pigs for many years in addition to raising cattle. Mr. Parker also enjoyed coon hunting and genealogy. He was a member of the Love County Fair Board, having served as a member for many years, and also as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Leon Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Lyndon O. and Amelva Parker of Leon; his wife, Wanda Parker of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Monica Parker of Leon; three daughters and son-in-law, Cherlynn Norman of Sarasota, Florida, Susan and John Kennedy of Marietta, and Laurie Powell of Burneyville; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Lois Parker of Burneyville; 10 grandchildren, Amber Reed, Royce Gillhum, Mariah Powell, Travis Reed, Whitney Kuykendall, Tara and Chuck McGill, Gabe and Carla Parker and Daniel Parker and 3 great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Parker, Madison and Gentry McGill; a nephew, several nieces and great-nieces.
Pallbearers will be Travis Reed, Lance Parker, Gabe Parker, John Kennedy, Royce Gillhum, Jonathan Powell and Dan Parker.
Honorary pallbearers are Bert Duke, Tommy Hartman, Pierce Monkres, J.C. Carlile, Wayne Bond, Joel Hicks, Frank Lornes, Sr., Woodrow Kendall, P.A. Hartman, Boog Taliaferro, Bob Taylor, Willie Hart, Billy Ray Robinson, "Bugs" Hicks, Bobby Graham, Alvie Reed and Larry Hicks.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Cross Timbers Hospice or Leon Baptist Church, c/o Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
