Services for Johnny Sylvester Norvell, 68, of Andrews, Texas, were Wednesday at
10:00 a.m. in the Leon Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. John Sconce.
Mr. Norvell was born December 19, 1930, at Leon and died March 21, 1999, in the
Andrews-Permian General Hospital of Andrews. He was the son of Danel and Annie
Hice Norvell.
Mr. Norvell married Roxy Miller on June 11, 1956, at Morton, Texas. An oil
field consultant, he also served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the
Korean Conflict. Mr. Norvell was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of
Andrews.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Roxy Norvell of the home at Andrews; a son,
Jimmy Norvell of Andrews; a daughter, Anna Woods, also of Andrews; two
brothers, Cuin Norvell of Robert Lee, Texas, and Houston Norvell of Mayhill,
New Mexico; four sisters, Lela Holland of Mountainair, New Mexico, Betty
Singleton of South Carolina, Molly Neel of Dallas, Texas, and Coleen Triplett
of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Norvell was preceded in death by three sons, Johnny Norvell on November 26,
1973, Terry Norvell on June 30, 1993, and Keith Norvell on December 31, 1996;
two brothers, Perry E. Norvell on December 8, 1995, and Dudley Norvell on
September 11, 1981; and a sister, Beulah Williams.
Interment in the Leon Cemetery was directed by Kennedy Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Doyle Gilbert, B.G. Caldwell, Charles Gilbert, Boe Gilbert,
James Caldwell and Johnny Ray Norvell. Honorary bearer was Sonny Hartman.
