Services for Ruby Jewel Mapp, 87, of Jimtown, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, in the Jimtown Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Tittle officiating and Tony Ladner assisting.
Mrs. Mapp was born March 19, 1914, in McMillan, the daughter of Sylvester and Mattie Johnson Ladner. She died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Mercy Health Love County in Marietta.
Mrs. Mapp had lived in the Jimtown area most of her life. She and V.U. Mapp were married April 7, 1933, in Ardmore. Mrs. Mapp was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning, in addition to quilting. She was a member of the Jimtown Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, V.U. Mapp of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, F.S. and Trina Mapp of Jimtown and J.B. and Alta Mapp of Ardmore; six grandchildren, Mark Mapp, Carolyn Oats, Nancy Rhoades, Marie Mapp, Ramona Fox and Robert Mapp; 12 great-grandchildren, Samantha Mapp, Ashley Mapp, Chase Mapp, William Oats, Allan Oats, Scott Oats, Tayler Oats, Caleb Rhoades, Alissa Rhoades, Adonis Fox, Samuel Fox and Kacie Mapp; a brother, Ott Ladner of Jimtown; and five sisters, Azaline Hays and Sue Taliaferro of Marietta, Poline Monkres of De Soto, Texas, Grace Graham of Duncanville, Texas, and Francis Foster of Tilden, Texas.
Mrs. Mapp was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Audrey Ladner; a daughter, Bernice Irene Mapp; five brothers, Wester Ladner, Charlie Ladner, Richard Ladner, Vester "Buck" Ladner and Andrew "Bay" Ladner; and two sisters, Emma Ladner and Epsy Harris.
Serving as pallbearers were nephews Brian Ladner, Larry Taliaferro, Tommy Hays, Jimmy Monkres, Jeffery Graham and Haskell Folsom. Honorary pallbearers were Archelowe Terrill, Jimmy Hall, Johnny Hall, Larry Hicks, Joel Hicks, Lewis Blakley, Johnny Kirk Gordon, Badger McBride and Wesley V. Hull.
Interment was in Jimtown Cemetery under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
