Services for James Edwin Meeks, 66, of Rowlett, Texas, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 9, at Enville Community Church, with the Rev. Stephen Biggerstaff and the Rev. Gary Gunsolus officiating.
Mr. Meeks was born November 22, 1935, in Marietta, the son of Haskell and Alma Hester Daughrity Meeks. He died Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at his residence in Rowlett.
A graduate of high school in Brownfield, Texas, Mr. Meeks had been a resident of Rowlett since 1987 where he was a grocery merchandiser for Crossmark. He and Marlene Kaye Stewart were married in Odessa, Texas, on May 2, 1970. Mr. Meeks had been a Mason since 1961.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Kaye Meeks of the home; his mother, Alma Hester Meeks of Lone Grove; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory Allan and Dana Meeks of Bastrop, Texas, and Eric Wayne and Sharon Meeks of Denver, Colorado; four brothers, Raymond Meeks of Crockett, Texas, Jack Meeks of El Paso, Texas, Larry Meeks of San Angeloa, Texas, and Gary Meeks of Lone Grove; three sisters, Joyce Nutter of Lone Grove, Jan Meeks of Oklahoma City, and Brenda Willingham of Lone Grove; and four grandchildren, Jaime Meeks, Sasha Olvera, Alysa Meeks and Maranda Patton.
Mr. Meeks was preceded in death by his father, Haskell B. Meeks, Sr., and a brother, Haskell B. Meeks Jr.
Pallbearers were John Meeks, Ray Stockton, Charlie Berquist, Shayne Johnston, Jeff Nutter and Gayle Armstrong.
Interment was in Lebanon Cemetery, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
