Services for Charlotte Loraine Musser, 93, of Burneyville, will be held today (Friday), February 21, under the arrangement of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson, with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating.
Mrs. Musser was born July 22, 1909, in Pickwick, Texas, the daughter of C.E. and Betty Morgan. She died Tuesday, February 18, 2003, in Elmbrook Nursing Home, Ardmore.
She moved with her family to Cheek in 1911 and later to Oswalt where she graduated from Oswalt High School. Mrs. Musser received her teaching degree from Southeastern Teachers College in Durant. She also received a master's degree from the Southern Methodist University and did advanced graduate work at the University of North Texas. Mrs. Musser started teaching at Oswalt and later at Orr. She and Skyles Musser were married in 1936. They both taught at Batson for five years. In 1942, she started teaching in the Dallas city schools. While she was there, Mrs. Musser was instrumental in organizing the gifted program for young children. She taught a total of 42 years in Texas and Oklahoma.
Mrs. Musser was given the Outstanding Achievement award for assisting children who were wards of the court in Dallas. During this time she was president of the Delta Kappa Gamma chapter from 1966 to 1968. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club in Dallas for 20 years. In 1975, Mrs. Musser was given an award as the Dallas Teacher of the Year. In 1979 she moved to the family ranch near Burneyville, where she cared for her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Patricia Musser of Burneyville; two grandchildren, Will and Susan Musser of Burneyville; two brothers, Walen Morgan of Pryor and J.B. Morgan of Sacramento, California; two sisters, Maryette Clifton of Killeen, Texas, and Betty Hilton of Emporia, Kansas; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Musser was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Skyles Musser; two brothers, Kelly Morgan and Haskell "Hack" Morgan; and two sisters, Anna Lea Cox and Brunette Parsley.
Pallbearers will be Herb Hartman, Lonnie Cavitt, Curtiss Nipp, Mike Parker, David Black and Dale Morgan.
Services will be under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
