Woodrow W. Lawson

A celebration of the life of Woodrow (Woody) Lawson of Houston, Texas, formerly of Marietta, will be held Sunday,September 26, in the form of a fellowship in the Love County Fair Building. All relatives and friends are invited to attend the fellowship which will begin at noon and continue until 4:00 p.m.
Services for Mr. Lawson were held September 22 in the First Baptist Church Heights in Houston, followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, also in Houston.
Born January 2, 1918, in Marietta, the son of Jim Franklin and Nora Lawson, Mr. Lawson died September 19, 1999, in Hermann Hospital in Houston at the age of 81. He attended school in Marietta until the 8th grade. During World War II, Mr. Lawson served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. Later he was in the real estate busines, as well as involved in selling antique furniture and also operating a pecan orchard near Marietta. Mr. Lawson and the former LaNell McKay were married in Marietta December 19, 1936. He was a member of the First Baptist Church Heights.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, LaNell McKay Lawson of the home in Houston; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Sue and John Ratcliff, Betty Jane Franklin, and Carole and Ken Corey, all of Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, Ben F. and Diane Lawson, also of Houston; two brothers, Herbert Bon Lawson of Dallas, Texas, and J.B. Lawson of Ardmore; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
