Services for Vester Ann Lornes, 98, of Burneyville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, at Turner Public Schools Freeman Auditorium, with Elder Willie McGaskey, the Rev. Elmo Toles, Jr., Rev. Lawrence Anderson and Robert Clayton officiating.
Mrs. Lornes was born October 22, 1903, at Burneyville, the daughter of Luther Hornbeak Sr. and Lizzie Williams Hornbeak. She died Monday, February 11, 2002, in Oklahoma City, at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Lornes was a homemaker and had been a resident of Love County all of her life before moving to Oklahoma City three years ago to be with her daughter. She and Jesse Lornes Sr. were married at Burneyville, and to this union 10 children were born. Mrs. Lornes attended Dunbar School at Burneyville. She united with St. John Primitive Baptist Church at Burneyville at an early age.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Herman Lornes of Denver, Colorado, Frank Sr. and Sammie Lornes of Burneyville, L.J. and Dorothy Lornes and Willie Robert Lornes of Marietta; five daughters and son-in-law, Ruby Lornes of Denver, Colorado; Lucinda Hunter, Imileta L. Sheets, Jo Eddie Gallimore and Rosella L. and Alfred Walker, all of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Almeda Roberts of Ardmore and Euna Pearl Marshall of Seattle, Washington; one sister-in-law, Sarah Hornbeak of Burneyville; one niece she raised, Barbara Jean Hopkin of Seattle; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews and relatives.
Mrs. Lornes was preceded in death by her husband on September 7, 1955; her parents; a son, Jesse Lornes, Jr.; a grandson, Arnold Dean Lornes; a niece that she raised, Addie Lee Woody; four brothers and seven sisters.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, J.C. Anderson, Mark Lornes, Frank L. Lornes, Ronald C. Walker, Robert Sheets, Jr. and Robert Todd Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Gaines, Lawrence Lornes, Jr., Dwayne Jason Sheets, the Rev. Frank Lornes, Gregory Lornes and Alfred Walker III.
Interment will be in the Dunbar Cemetery, Burneyville, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
