Graveside services for Riley Daniel Hughes, 80, of Ryan, were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, at Ryan Cemetery, with Bro. Clarence Mize officiating.
Mr. Hughes was born January 12, 1923, near Marietta, the son of Arthur and Helen Stephens Hughes. He died August 18, 2003, in the Ryan Nursing Home.
He was handicapped all his life having polio when he was an infant. However, that did not stop hime from helping out on his parents' farm. Mr. Hughes loved horses and owned one most of his life, until he became a resident of Ryan Nursing Home in 1985. While living in Marietta, Mr. Hughes attended Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Earl Hughes of Gainesville, Texas, and Houston Hughes of Durant; three sisters, Ruby Thurman of Marietta, Ada Ramsey of Terral, and Inez Crawford of Ryan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters; one half-sister and one half-brother.
Services were under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home, Ryan.
