Services for Mary Frances (Pat) Hendon were Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Eastside Baptist Church of Marietta. Officiating was Rev. Tim Emmons assisted by Rev. Keith Miller.
Mrs. Hendon was born August 26, 1912, at Stiner, Mississippi, and died March 15, 1995, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta, at the age of 82. She was the daughter of Martin William and Sara Elizabeth Clampit Carter.
Mrs. Hendon had lived in this area since 1941, moving here from Callisburg, Texas. She was a licensed vocational nurse and worked at the Love County and Carter County Health Departments for several years. Mrs. Hendon was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church where she served as director and teacher of the Children's Sunday School Department for many years. She was also an American Legion Gold Star Mother.
She married A.S. Hendon on December 21, 1930, at San Angelo, Texas.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Alice Jean and Carol Wayne Flanagan of Marietta; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Katherine and John Paul Johnson of Hartselle, Alabama; a brother, James F. Carter of Herndon, Virginia; grandchildren, Carolyn and Larry Gordon, Charlotte and Steve Creecy, Billy and Reba Flanagan, David and Mona Flanagan, Kevin and Michelle Flanagan, Mary and Leo Schinkle, Laura and Terry Nelson and William Hendon; four step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Hendon was preceded in death by her husband on December 25, 1975; a son, Major Billy Hendon on November 16, 1966; three sisters and one half-sister.
Interment was in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law served as pallbearers. Honorary bearers included Donnie Evans, Jim Martin, Clinton Holt, Jimmy Evans, Ralph Evans, Bub Peery, Jack Testerman, Ed Wylie, Denzil McGill, Jimmy Watson and Dan Woolery.
Memorials may be made to the Eastside Baptist Church or the Baptist Children's Home in Madill, care of Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home.
