Services for Ernest "Cotton" Lee Hughes, 70, of Madill, were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, at the First Baptist Church, Madill, with Bob Waitman officiating.
Mr. Hughes was born January 1, 1933, in Love County, the son of Robert and Juanita Emory Hughes. He died Sunday, August 24, 2003, at his residence in Madill.
Growing up in Marietta, Mr. Hughes moved to Madill in 1974. He and Joyce June Love were married May 6, 1974, in Gainesville, Texas. After moving to Madill, he worked for The Clinton Williams Company for the last 20 years. Mr. Hughes was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Madill; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Carla France, Andrew and Teresa Hughes and Jonathan and Marsha Hughes of Madill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Lewis Knight of Madill and Melissa and STanley McDonald of Oakland; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Robert Hughes and Austin Hughes; and four sisters, Dorothy, Estelane, Ruby and Geneta.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Winston Buddy Hughes and Lanard Hughes.
Pallbearers were John Stuckey, Byron Self, Larry Stuckey, Bill Jones, Wendel Nesbitt and Danny Maines. Honorary pallbearers were Bryan Williams, James Johnson and Ronnie Stuckey.
Interment was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Watts Funeral Home, Madill.
