Services for Carlton Jackson Howard, 64, of Overbrook, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Chapel, Ardmore, with Wayne Merritt officiating.
Mr. Howard was born September 9, 1938, at Thackerville, the son of Conan and Edna F. Thaxton Howard. He died Sunday, June 1, 2003, in the Norman Regional Hospital, Norman.
He had lived in Overbrook and Southern Oklahoma all of his life. A graduate of Ardmore High School in 1956, he and Virginia L. Price were married April 19, 1958, in Ardmore.
Mr. Howard had served in the Oklahoma National Guard for 21 years, retiring in 1998 as a Sergeant First Class. He was associated with the Marietta Sports Wear for 32 years and had been manager and maintenance supervisor of the plants in Ardmore, Ringling and Marietta. Mr. Howard had been a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 722.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia L. Howard of the home in Overbrook; three daughters and sons-in-law, La Ree Davis of Overbrook, Jan and Scott Benton of Edmond, and Mona and David Flanagan of Greenville; two sisters, Mina Howard and Peggy Heller of Ardmore; a brother, Harold Burton of Ardmore; an aunt, Janice Hannebaum of Georgetown, Texas; seven grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Sidney, on November 9, 1991.
Interment with military honors by CWO W.C. Mitchell, USA Ret., was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home, Marietta.
