Services for William Jackson "Bill" Griffin, 72, of Grant, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, in the First Baptist Church in Grant, with the Rev. Mike Armes officiating.
Mr. Griffin was born May 24, 1929, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Leno and Helen Foglesong Griffin. He died Sunday, November 11, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Griffin was a mechanic and joined the United States Army when he was 17 years old, serving during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1967 after 22 years of service as Chief Warrant Officer 3rd Class. Mr. Griffin retired to Grant eight years ago. Previously he had lived in Grand Prairie, Texas, Hugo and Cromwell. He and Loise Bates were married September 23, 2001, in Grant. Mr. Griffin attended the First Baptist Church in Grant.
Survivors include his wife, Loise Griffin of the home; children, Gerald Lee Griffin of Gladewater, Texas, John David and Dawn Griffin of Prague, Janice and Tim Harris of Bogalusa, Louisiana, James and Beth Griffin of Patuxent River, Maryland, Dina Lynn Griffin of Dallas, Texas, Misty and Chris Crowsen of Wewoka, Barbara and Tom Tweddale of Arlington, Texas, Johnis Knight of Yucapia, California, Edith and Greg Turner of Euless, Texas, Troy Bates of Denison, Texas and Rhonda Bates and Loretta Johnson of Hugo; a brother, Albert Griffin of Grant; two sisters, Myrtle Williams of Grant and Shirley Hicks of Colorado; 27 grandchildren, including John Thomas Griffin of Okemah, Michael David Griffin of Bearden, Jeremy Dale Ford, Jeffery Michael Thornton, James Craig Thornton and Amber Lynn Thornton of Prague, and Braeden Del Griffin and Sydney Case Griffin of Marietta; and four great-grandchildren, including Sawyer Wayne Griffin and Tanner James Griffin of Okemah.
Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Griffin in 1987; and grandsons, Jory McLoud Griffin in 1990 and Damon Taylor.
Interment was in Grant Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the United States Army Honor Guard, Fort Sill.
Services were under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home, Hugo.
