Services for Jesse Davis Freeman, 86, of Marietta, were held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 30, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with the Rev. Tony Caro officiating.
Mr. Freeman was born May 2, 1916, in Marietta, the son of Westley Davis and Maude Rice Freeman. He died Friday, September 27, 2002, in Mercy Health-Love County Hospital, Marietta.
Born and raised in Love County, Mr. Freeman moved to California in 1950 and worked as a sheet metal worker until 1979 when he returned to Marietta upon his retirement. He and Wetona Dowell were married September 2, 1939, in Marietta. Mr. Freeman attended New Hope School and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wetona Freeman of Marietta; two sons, Jesse L. Freeman of Vacaville, California, and James D. Freeman of Daly City, California; two daughters, Virginia L. "Ginni" Knowles of Marietta and Kathy A Schloezer of Napa, California; two brothers, George Freeman of Ardmore and W.D. Freeman of Bethany; three sisters, Rosa Mae Jackson of Marietta, Lena Ruth Hughes of Fort Worth, Texas, and Burniece Dillard of Waskom, Texas; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Marvin Freeman, Samuel Freeman and Sydney Russell Freeman.
Pallbearers were Terry Vernon, Bruce Callen, John Boyd and James Segler.
Interment was in the McAlister Cemetery in rural Carter County, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
