Graveside services for Ed F. "Coot" Foster, 86, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
May 29, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville with the Rev. John Sconce
officiating.
Mr. Foster was born May 17, 1915, in Thackerville, the son of Fred and Annie Adair Foster. He died May 26, 2001, at Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
Mr. Foster was a farmer and had been a resident of Love County most of his life. He and Elsa E. Verlinden were married in Gainesville, Texas, on December 20, 1946. Mr. Foster served as a gunner with the 11th Armored Regiment in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Continental United States, France, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria. He received such honors as the World War II Victory Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the EAME Theater Ribbon, four Bronze Service Stars and the Purple Heart Ribbon. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Mr. Foster was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Elsa Foster of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Jim Wasden of Arlington, Texas, Robin and Jimmy Sorrell of Gainesville, Texas, and Terry and Kim Faulkenberry of Marietta; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Eddie and Charlotte Foster of Whitesboro, Texas, and Lonnie
and Rita Foster of Thackerville; nine grandchildren, Brooke, David, Shawna,
Cathy, Neal, Bobby, Chris, Brandon and Bridgette; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Kenny Gaskin.
Pallbearers were grandsons David Wasden, Neal Foster, Bobby Faulkenberry, Chris Faulkenberry, Brandon Sorrell and Jimmy Sorrell. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Wasden and Kim Faulkenberry.
Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
