Services for Charlie Henry Flanagan were Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Fite and Rev. Gayle Baucum officiating.
Mr. Flanagan was born April 2, 1922, in Naples, Texas, the son of Henry and Etha Skaggs Flanagan, and died September 9, 1992, in the Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma, Ardmore, at the age of 70.
Mr. Flanagan had lived in Ardmore for about a year, moving there from Gainesville, Texas. He had previously lived in Marietta for a number of years where he retired from the newspaper and printing business. He married Olene Roberts September 19, 1981, in Gainesville. A former member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, Mr. Flanagan was a current member of the Southwest Baptist Church in Ardmore where he served as a Sunday School teacher.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Europe where he was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Mr. Flanagan was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a charter member of the Love County Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Olene Flanagan of the home in Ardmore; a son, Leighton Flanagan of Fort Worth, Texas; three step-sons, Larry Roberts of Ardmore, Charley Roberts of Marietta, and Tony Roberts of Lone Grove; a step-daughter, Sue Daugherty of Lone Grove; three brothers, Ray Flanagan of Comanche, Curtis Flanagan of Gainesville, and Clayton Flanagan of Lewisville, Texas; four sisters, Thelma Willard of Burneyville, Margaret White of Marietta, Betty Vanlandingham of Arlington, Texas, and Norma George of Denton, Texas; three grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren.
Mr. Flanagan was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanetta Flanagan; and a brother, Glen Flanagan.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were G.W. Flanagan, Jim Watson, Carol Wayne Flanagan, Thurman Vinson, Manuel Nix, Richard Barker, and Gene Bond. Honorary pallbearers included H.W. McKinney, W.E. Higgs, Doug Simon, Curtis Williams, Ralph Evans, Jess Bond, and Leonard Morrow.
