Services for Joe Dowlearn were Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Rubottom Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Hill officiating.
Born March 20, 1923, in Hallisville, Texas, Mr. Dowlearn died March 29, 1995, at the Bryan County Manor Nursing Home, Durant, at the age of 72. He was the son of Tony and Rosie Hoffer Dowlearn.
A resident of Love County since 1968, he was retired from Brown Oil Tools and Apex Oil Tools where he was a driller and tool fisher. Mr. Dowlearn married Velma Mauldin February 15, 1963, at Sherman, Texas. They operated the Horn's Corner grocery store 12 years after his retirement from the oilfield.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Velma Dowlearn of the home; four sons, Alton Dowlearn and Rickey Dowlearn of Houston, Texas, Calvin Dowlearn of Yoakum, Texas, and Mike Dowlearn of Indianapolis, Indiana; two daughters, Sandra Pelleck of Yoakum and Peggy Arledge of Wilson; a sister, Anita Debord of Hallisville, Texas; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dowlearn was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Interment was in the Leon Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Marvin Wade, Otis Cummings, Pat Parker, Paul Hallum, Herb Hartman and Don Musser.
