Graveside services for Willie Jim "Bill" Carter Jr., 81, of Marietta, were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, in the Marlow Cemetery, Marlow, with Ken Lemond reading the eulogy.
Mr. Carter was born March 10, 1922, at Burneyville, the son of Willie Jim and Lizzie Dallas Townsend Carter. He died Saturday, January 17, 2004, in St. Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City.
He had been a resident of Marietta for the past 26 years, moving from Marlow. He and Stella Louise Walls were married February 15, 1946 and she preceded him in death on February 15, 1976. Mr. Carter attended school at Burneyville. He was a retired house painter. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the Lewisville Riding Club and faithfully attended the Pacesetters Dance Club. Mr. Carter was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, William Carter of Gainesville, Texas; a special friend, Dorothy Smith of Madill; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of firends.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Willie Jim Carter III on November 22, 1962; two brothers and four sisters.
Honorary pallbearers were Terry Smith, Dennis Smith, Ken Lemond, Steve Carter, Phil Johnson and members of the Pacesetters Dance Club.
Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
