Services for Tod Neil Carter, 19, were Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Ada with Rev. Gary Caldwell and Tom Riley officiating with eulogy given by Gary McBroom. A graveside service in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, was conducted at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Born April 11, 1974, in Ada, the son of Johnny and Brenda Barnett Carter, Tod died August 15, 1993, in Norman. He was a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma in Norman where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity and served as pledge secretary. A 1992 graduate of Ada High School, Tod was Senior Class President and a member of the Student Council. He was on the 1991 Ada High School State Championship football team, and, at linebacker, was named player of the game in the championship contest against Duncan. In that game, he had several sacks, made his first career interception and caused a fumble that resulted in Ada’s game-clinching touchdown. Tod was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Ada.
He is survived by his father and step-mother, Johnny and Debbie Carter of Ada; mother and step-father, Brenda and John Kennedy of Marietta; brother and sister-in-law, J. L. and Kim Carter of Ada; half-brother, Justin Carter of Ada; step-sister, Tara McGill of Marietta; nephew Tyler Carter of Ada; and grandmother, Charlene Brown of Sulphur.
Services were directed by the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home of Marietta and Criswell Funeral Home of Ada. Pallbearers were Larry Bush, Jake Cain, J. R. Hughes, Brad Pettigrew, Clint Stewart, Matt Landrith, Greg Dean, and Craig Matthews. Honorary pallbearers included ATO Fraternity Brothers at OU, 1992 Ada High School Senior Class, 1991 Ada High School State Championship Football Team and Jerry McGill.
