Private family services with military honors were held for Richard A. "Dick" Cochran, 81, of Marietta. Arrangements were directed by Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
Born February 11, 1924, in Sayre, the son of Clarence B. and Grace Page Cochran, he died Monday, May 9, 2005, in Mercy Health/Love County Hospital, Marietta.
A resident of Marietta since 1956, Mr. Cochran moved from Tulsa and had previously lived in Washington, D.C. He and Elizabeth Anne Healy were married June 24, 1950, in Washington, D.C. She preceded him in death December 3, 1993. He owned and operated Cochran's Hardware & Furniture in Marietta since 1956. Mr. Cochran was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with the First Calvary Division. He fought in the Los Negros Island invasion. Mr. Cochran graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy until 1954, also serving on Admiral Farian's staff. He attended Texas A&M University, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Marietta.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. Jr. and Lea Ann Cochran of Marietta; two daughters and son-in-law, Susan Cochran of Marietta and Mary Grace and Glenn McCurtain of Marietta; and three grandchildren, Jennifer McCurtain, Christopher McCurtain and Justin Cochran.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Robert Cochran; and a sister, Clarice "Sally" Guest on October 22, 2004.
