Services for Don Cox, 63, were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Eastside Baptist Church. Officiating were Rev. W.S. McMurtrey and Sister Parlee Russell.
Born October 28, 1933, at Tulsa, Mr. Cox died February 1, 1997, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta. He was the son of Dee Emerson and Emma Sands Cox.
Mr. Cox had lived in Marietta the past 13 years, moving here from Shawnee. He married Faye Martindale at Oklahoma City on July 23, 1952. Mr. Cox, an accomplished musician, could play several musical instruments but was known more so for his fiddle playing. A retired carpenter, he was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Faye Cox of the home in Marietta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Donna Ballard of Phoenix, Arizona, and Stan and Ladanna Cox of Shawnee; four daughters and sons-in-law, Laveda Sharp, Patty and Steve Hall and Twilla and Dennis Heine of Shawnee, and Debbie and Hubert Davis of Marietta; six sisters, Ruby Corrick of Shawnee, Gladys Newberry of Antioch, California, Viola Heath of Palmer, Texas, Pauline Horkey and Vera Rooks of Freeport, Texas, and Cassie Hensley of Lehigh; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Rice in 1950; and a brother, Buck Cox in 1942.
Burial in Lakeview Cemetery was under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jay Thompson, Johnny Bone, Bill Ross, Bill Locke, Bill Raines and Carl Hill. Honorary bearers were David Reed, Jim Harkey and Clayton Hughes.
