Services for Ralph Augustus "Pete" Bell, 78, will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Marietta with Rev. Roland Luelf officiating. A eulogy will be given by Darrell Holland.
Born March 5, 1917, at Woodbine, Texas, Mr. Bell died January 17, 1996, in the Love County Health Center, Marietta. He was the son of James Walter and Alta May Heilman Bell.
Mr. Bell had lived in Marietta since 1975, moving here from Odessa, Texas, where he had made his home for 20 years. He was a pumper for Getty Oil Company and had been a member of the U.S. Coast Guard for five years. Mr. Bell married Arthula Christine Thurman on August 4, 1941, in Marietta. He was of the Methodist belief.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Arthula Bell of the home in Marietta; a son, Ralph E. "Buzz" Bell of the home; a daughter, Sandra K. Sides of Denton, Texas; a brother, Ray Bell of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; a sister, Gracie Mae Bussey of Tuscon, Arizona; four grandchildren, Matt Sides, Chad Bell, Stacey Holland and Shelly Griffin; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Blake and Jacob Holland, Stephanie Sides and Lanie Rae Griffin.
Mr. Bell was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar Bell and Jack Bell.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Chad Bell, Don Stewart, Bill Bell, Thomas Griffin, David Bell and Steve Bell. Honorary bearers are Matt Sides, Dub Bell, Danny Stewart, Bill Carter, Joe Bell and Jerry Don Stewart.
