Services for Lillie Mae Burns were at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Graham Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. Dwight Hawkins.
Mrs. Burns was born December 4, 1914, at Elmore City, the daughter of Ambros and Bertha Sparks Nicholson. She died January 30, 1999, in Mercy Health Love County in Marietta.
Raised at Ragtown, Mrs. Burns graduated from Dundee High School. She and Amos Paul Burns were married December 24, 1932, and they moved to Graham in 1951. Mrs. Burns became the Postmaster of the Graham Post Office in 1970 and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1983. She was active in community projects and was a member of the Graham Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Burns of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Mary Burns of Thackerville and Richard and Betty Burns of Houston, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bufford Bullard of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Lois Helen Burns of Ardmore and Lucille Wilcox of Dundee, Florida; 11 grandchildren, one stepgrandson and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bobby “Bob” Charles Burns on March 5, 1984; two grandsons, Roy Neal Burns in 1965 and Darrin Burns in 1980; a granddaughter, Rhonda Timmons in 1985; a sister, Anna Bell; and two brothers, Edgar and Leon Nicholson.
Services were directed by Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson, with interment in the Bomar Point Cemetery, Wilson. Serving as casket bearers were Paul Ray Martin, Paul Dean Martin, Danny Paul Martin, Darrin Langley, Glen Langley and Nolan Brown. Honorary bearers were grandsons.
