Services for Lura Brewer were conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Marietta’s First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Higle officiating.
Born May 14, 1913, in Wilson, Mrs. Brewer died September 3, 1992, in Haltom City, Texas, at the age of 79. She was the daughter of Frank Albert and Lillia Belle Greenwood Shellenberger.
Mrs. Brewer had lived most of her life in Marietta before moving to Haltom City 1 1/2 years ago to maker home with her daughter. She married Virgil Brewer in Marietta in 1932.
A retired employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, she was a member of the Eastern Star, an active member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Southwestern Bell Pioneer Breakfast Club.
She is survived by a son, David Ralph Brewer of Marietta; a daughter, Jo Ann Smith of Haltom City; two brothers, David Shellenberger of Marietta and C. J. Shellenberger of Gainesville, Texas; three sisters, Sis Shellenberger and Joyce Buckholtz of Marietta and Murl Duncan of Palm Springs, California; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her husband on April 22, 1963; five brothers, Alton Shellenberger, Orville Shellenberger, Hop Shellenberger, Elmer Shellenberger, and F. A. Shellenberger; and a sister, Bertie Shellenberger.
Services were under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were C. J. Shellenberger, David Shellenberger, Butch Shellenberger, Wesley Liddell, Jr., Randy Robertson, Luke Brewer, Dr. John H. Smith, and John Singleton Smith. Honorary bearers were members of the Southwestern Bell Pioneer Breakfast Club and Fidelias Sunday School Class.
