Services for John Wesley Black, Jr., 74, were Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Officiating was Rev. W.Z. DeMent.
Born May 31, 1919, at Rubottom, the son of John Wesley and Mattie Abney Black, Mr. Black died January 13, 1994, in Dallas, Texas.
He had lived in Marietta for 13 years, moving here from Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Black served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Casper, Wyoming, and at Lake Murray State Park for several years and retired from Ebner Brothers Packing in Wichita Falls. He married Nora Lee Loving February 17, 1946, at Gainesville, Texas. Mr. Black was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nora Black of the home near Marietta; two sons, Rodney Dale Black of Dallas and Wesley Darrell Black of Austin, Texas; two brothers, Homer Black of Stockton, California, and David Black of Burneyville; three sisters, Audrey Hearell and Ethel Walden of Marietta and Evelyn Proffer of Burneyville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Altus Gillaspy, Odis Hearell, Frank Walden, Lawrence Black, Toney Hearell and Charles Dewayne Black. Honorary bearers included Calvin Russell, Willie Russell and Bob Russell.
