Services for Hazel A. Bond, 87, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 6, in Marietta's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating.
Mrs. Bond was born March 29, 1913, at Addington Bend, the daughter of Mac and
Lola Mae Moore Shurbet. She died July 4, 2000 at Mercy Health Love County in
Marietta.
She had been a resident of Love County all of her life. She and Olen Bond were
married November 23, 1930, in Marietta, and they had made their home in Loves
Valley for 61 years.
Mrs. Bond had been a member of Marietta's First Baptist Church for 57 years and
for many years cooked for the children of the church at Falls Creek. Her
hobbies included canning garden vegetables, sewing and quilting a hand-pieced
quilt for each grandchild.
Survivors include her husband, Olen Bond of the home; three daughters and son-
in-law, Billie Mac Presley of Marietta, Virginia and Charles Leeper of Corpus
Christi, Texas, and Wanda Young of Aledo, Texas; one sister, Noble Bond of
Marietta; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bond was preceded in death by five brothers and two half-sisters.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Dennis Presley, Royce Young, Gary
Presley, Rick Young, Billy Charles Young and Keith Leeper. Honorary
pallbearers were great-grandsons and Fidelis Sunday School Class of First
Baptist Church.
Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral
Home.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Heart
Association.
