Services for Gerald Dwayne Bond Sr., 79, of Burneyville, were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, at Jimtown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thomas E. Clark Sr. officiating.
Mr. Bond was born April 10, 1924, in Conway, Missouri, the son of William Jessie and Minnie Smith Bond. He died Saturday, February 14, 2004, at his residence.
A resident of Love County for the past 15 years, he had previously made his home in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Bond was a diesel mechanic and also drove a truck for Morrison Milling in Denton, Texas. He and Vivian Lorane Clark were married December 30, 1973, in Burlington, Colorado. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Bond was a Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy. He was captured by the Japanese and held as a prisoner of war for two years. Mr. Bond was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Gainesville, Texas, and has been a member of the Jimtown Baptist Church since 1999. He attended seminary and was very proud of his ministry work.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian L. Bond of the home; five sons, Loan Wesley Huggins and Billy Ray Minyard, both of Fort Worth, Darrell E. Huggins of Irving, Texas, Gerald Dwayne Bond Jr. of Burleson, Texas and Gary L. Minyard of Mesquite, Texas; two daughters, Beverly Jean Bond of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Shirley Ann Bond of Charleston, South Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers were Darrell E. Huggins, Billy Ray Minyard, James Thomas Ford Sr., Virgil Sellers, Gerald Clark, Robert Holland and James Thomas Ford Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Loan Wesley Huggins, Gerald Dwayne Bond Jr. and Gary L. Minyard.
Interment was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
