Services for Charlie Vernon "Chock" Barrick, 83, of Burney-ville, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with Stan Idell and Greg Idell officiating.
Mr. Barrick was born June 17, 1918, at Rubottom, the son of John Henry and Bonnie Mae Benson Barrick. He died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Ardmore.
He had lived in the Burneyville area since 1934, where he was a farmer and rancher. Mr. Barrick attended school at Healdton and at Courtney and played on the Burneyville community baseball team. He served in the U.S. Army, Artillery Division, during World War II, serving two years in Iceland. Mr. Barrick was
awarded the American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater Medal, three
Overseas Bars, the Good Conduct Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign
Medal, Victory Medal and one Service Strip. He was a member of the American
Legion and also served as chairperson for the Rubottom and Burneyville Cemetery
committees. Mr. Barrick was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his special friend, Nonnie Miller of Jimtown; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Jeannine Barick of Burneyville; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie Smith of Denton, Texas, Vivian and Claude James Bone of Marietta, Juanita and Cecil "Dutch" Idell of Burneyville, and Lois and Don
Townsend of Oklahoma City; and 29 nieces and nephews.
Mr. Barrick was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Fred Barrick, Ray Barrick and J.T. Barrick; a sister, Velma Jones; and a nephew, Tony Barrick.
Pallbearers were his nephews, John Cartwright, Mike Barrick, Don Townsend, Jr., Jay Barrick, Dr. Sydney Smith, Bill Henry Smith, Larry Barrick, Rocky Barrick, Jimmy Bone, Vernon Barrick and Sam Barrick. Honorary pallbearers were William "Badger" McBride, Howard Higgs, J.C. Harris, Bill Shankles, Jimmy Lou Hall,
Archelowe Terrill, Alvin Hilton, Mike Fitts, Johnny Hall, Butch Sparks and
Rainford Burton.
Interment was in the Burneyville Cemetery, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
