Graveside services for A.S. "Aubrey Smith" Barber were conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery. Officiating was Dr. Stan Beacon, minister of the Marietta First United Methodist Church.

Born April 20, 1904, in Smith County, Texas, Mr. Barber died January 3, 1998, in Mercy Love County Health Center, Marietta, at the age of 93. He was the son of Jack and Mary White Barber.

Mr. Barber came to Oklahoma by way of Loves Valley in a covered wagon in 1907, before statehood, and lived most of his life in Love County. He was married to Sibyl Mills for 60 years, marrying on October 26, 1937, in Love County.

Mr. Barber was a retired self contractor in carpentry and was also the custodian for 44 years at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta where he was also a church member. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard of Ft. Sill, worked at Camp Howze as a cook for many years, earned his 50 year Masonic pin, and was president of the Love County Singing Convention for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sibyl Barber of the home in Marietta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Janet Barber of Marietta and Paul and Janis Barber of Ardmore; three daughters and son-in-law, Patsy Williams and Peggy and Sam Phillips of Marietta, and Debra Walling of Carrollton, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and untold number of friends and acquaintances.

Mr. Barber was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.

Services were directed by Kennedy Funeral Home. Honorary bearers were the First United Methodist Church Sunday School Class.
