Services for Almer C. Brewer, 81, of Overbrook, were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 7, in the Flanagan-Watts Fuenral Home Chapel, Marietta, with pastor Jeff McLemore officiating, and Alvin Baker delivering the eulogy.
Mr. Brewer was born October 15, 1922, at Gainesville, Texas, the son of John Henry and Pearl Culp Brewer. He died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
Raised in the Jimtown community, Mr. Brewer had lived in and around Marietta most of his life. He and Juanita Jordan were married January 1, 1955, in Ardmore. Mr. Brewer served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars. He retired from the Red River Valley Rural Electric Association in Marietta after 37 years employment as a lineman and meter reader. Mr. Brewer was a member of the American Legion in Marietta and the Jimtown Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Brewer of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marilyn Rice of Overbrook; two brothers, Sammy Brewer and J.D. Brewer of Marietta; and six sisters, Jesse Rackley of Burneyville, Juanita Harris of Wilson, Mary Paul of Ardmore, Grace Hardeman of Peoria, Arizona, Frankie Coates of Blythe, California, and Noretta Wenninger of Ardmore; five grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; a sister; and a stepson, Donald Rice.
Pallbearers were Ted Freeman, Bub Peery, David Kerr, Ernest Morgan, Lynn Puckett and Clyde Folsom. Honorary bearers are Lester Butler, Phil McMillan, other REA co-workers and Dr. Tom O'Connor.
Interment was in Woodberry-Forest Cemetery, Madill, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
