Services for Paul H. Allen, 70, of Coahoma, Texas, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring, Texas, with the Rev. Elwin Collum, pastor of First Baptist Church of Coahoma officiating.
Mr. Allen was born May 18, 1933, in Atlee, the son of Louise and John Allen. He died Sunday, December 7, 2003, in the Hospice House of Odessa, Texas.
Born and raised on a farm in Love County, Mr. Allen was a 1951 graduate of Marietta High School. He and Virginia Thompson were married September 15, 1956, in Marietta. She preceded him in death November 24, 2003. Mr. and Mrs. Allen moved to Howard County, Texas, in 1957 after their marriage. He worked at Cosden Oil and Chemical Refinery from 1959 to 1991. He served as Howard County commissioner from 1979 to 1991. Mr. Allen also farmed and ranched during those years and continued to farm after he retired from Cosden. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Coahoma. Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He previously was a member of the Lions Club, had served as a 4-H adult leader for many years, and had been awarded the Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1973.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Robert Cox of Fort Worth; a grandson, Bryan Cox, and a granddaughter, Amy Cox of Fort Worth; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilton and Almeda Allen of Marietta; a sister and brother-in-law, Vida and Gene Robertson of Baird, Texas; a brother-in-law, Clarence Wagner, and a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Vinson, both of Marietta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allen was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Allen; and a sister, Marcena Wagner.
Interment was in Coahoma Cemetery, under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory, Big Spring.
