Services for Ernest Lee Alexander, 101, of Burneyville, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 7, at Rubottom Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Cox officiating.
Mr. Alexander was born July 26, 1900, at Pike, Indian Territory, the son of
David Lee and Ella Coyle Alexander. He died Thursday, January 3, 2002, at Lake
Country Manor Nursing Home in Marietta.
A resident of Love County all of his life, Mr. Alexander attended Midway Grade School in Love County, Pike Grade School and Carter Seminary in Ardmore. He is an original enrollee of the Chickasaw Tribe on the Dawes Commission Rolls. Mr. Alexander and Ola Beatrice Carothers were married June 29, 1919, at Marsden and
she preceded him in death January 28, 1978. Mr. Alexander was a farmer and also
worked for the State Highway Department. He was a member of the Rubottom
Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Alexander of Grand Prairie, Texas; a daughter, Selma Glidden of Norman; a brother, Mack Alexander of Santa Ana, California; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Alexander was also preceded in death by two sons, Glynn Alexander on December 6, 1952, and Cecil Alexander on July 29, 1999; four brothers, W.V. "Witt" Alexander, Odis Alexander, Crock Alexander and Ben Alexander; and three
sisters, Hazel Huber, Ida Gamble and Mae Carlile.
Pallbearers were grandchildren, Jeffery Allen Glidden, Cecilia Lynn Black, Stanton Shea Alexander, Gregory Don Glidden, Aletra Diane Stuart and Terry Lee Alexander. Honorary pallbearers was Stanley Wayne Alexander.
Interment was in Burneyville Cemetery, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
