Michael Willis was born January 2, 1949 to Loma and Lola Willis. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 10, 2022. He accepted Christ and was baptized under the Baptist faith. Growing up he attended the Nazarene Baptist Church. Michael graduated from Turner High School in 1967 with a perfect attendance certificate.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Rambo by Reverend Hershel and to this union they raised four beautiful children, three of their own and their niece, Tamika Rambo. He was previously employed at Little Brownie Bakery as a mixer.

Michael served his country in 1968, SP4 Michael Willis of the first Calvary Division serving in the Vietnam Combat 11 B Infantry. He was a dedicated soldier and was given papers to be a Sergeant. Michael left those papers to return home, the promise he made to his mom and dad. He received a Purple Heart but declined it and also received a medal for a heroic deed leading his men back to safety. Michael also drove a quarter ton truck.

Michael was voted president of his class at Southeastern State College, Durant. He was very intelligent and could recite Bible scripture. He knew his Bible well because he read the entire Bible three times front to back. Michael would fast the entire time that he took to read from front to back nonstop. Michael had a personal relationship with God.

Michael's great gift was making people smile. He loved laughter and was full of joy. He was dedicated to his family but his greatest joy came from his grandchildren. They have many joyous memories together. He loved his German shepherd and also loved basketball. His classmates called him a Michael Jordan in their time. In his free time he loved the casino.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Willis, II; parents; four brothers, Connie Willis, M.C. Willis, Eloma Willis and Raymond Willis; and two sisters, Ella Toles and Vella Howell.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothy Willis; son, Michael D. Willis; daughters and son-in-law, LaTesia Jackson and husband Darrell and Shanteah Willis; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a favorite niece, Barbara Mansfield; sister, Lacey Wilson; and brother, Willie Willis.
