Born July 27, 1934 at Simon, the daughter of J.B. Gray, Sr. and Aleta Pearl Cox Gray, she departed this life Wednesday morning September 27, 2017, at a healthcare facility in Oklahoma City. Jackie was raised as a young girl at Simon attending school there. The family moved to Auburn, California where they lived for a few years before moving back to this area. Jackie attended her high school years at Meadowbrook where she was quite the athlete, excelling at basketball. Jackie loved telling stories of her games and their triumphs. She graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1953 and soon after married Waite Louis Henderson. She and Louis were united in marriage on August 8, 1953 and initially made their home at El Paso, Texas, where he was stationed serving in the Army. Afterwards, they followed his oilfield career all over Oklahoma and Texas, settling at Fort Stockton, Texas for 20 years.
In 1974 they purchased the store at Turner and moved back home. They owned and operated Louis’ Grocery of Turner for many years, enjoying the students and faculty of Turner Schools. Jackie was always a devoted mother and wife and cared for many of her family and friends during their illnesses. After closing the Turner store, they eventually retired and moved to Ardmore.
Louis preceded her in death on February 21, 2004.
Jackie stayed very active with her family and enjoyed dancing occasionally and being with her grandchildren. She was a past member of the Eastman Baptist Church and had been attending the River of Live Church of Wilson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Carol Mac Gray, Cary Lance Gray and most recently J.B. Gray, Jr.
Survivors include her two wonderful children, Cheryl Sanders and husband Warren of Marietta and Paul Henderson and wife Gayle of Fort Stockton; brothers, Randy Gray and Ricky Gray, both of Marietta and Greg Gray and wife Tammy of DeSoto, Texas; sisters, Celestine Ritter and husband Glen of Ardmore, Patricia Knight and husband Mel of Ponca City, Loretta Stearns and husband Glen of Moore and Linda Gray of Ardmore; grandchildren, Cris Henderson and wife Rebecca, Alyson Stokes and husband Cole, and Steffanie Stafford and husband Geoff; great-grandchildren, Zane, Carson, Hallie, Jaxee, Lakeyn and Landri; her canine companion, “brother”; numerous other children whom she considered her grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.
Serving as pallbearers were Stacey
Knight, Casey Eastman, Trey Gray, Chase Gray, Rodney Lang and Jimmy
Chance Tynes. Honorary bearers were O.L. Gray, Danny Gray, Aaron
Bussell, Jimmy Gale Tynes, Brent Gray and Chad Gray.
