Funeral services for Walton O. (Neil) Cox, 68, of Ardmore were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30 at the Lone Grove Assembly of God with Pastor John Harris officiating.

Interment followed in the Oswalt Cemetery.

Born April 13, 1943 in Ardmore, the son of Keith W. (Jack) and Alta Faye Beavers Cox, he died Thursday, July 28, 2011 in Ardmore after a brief illness.

Neil was a resident of southern Oklahoma most of his life. He attended school at Turner, graduating in 1961, then attended Murray State College. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Jane Copeland on June 22, 1962 at Marietta. Neil was a godly man, a loving husband, a great father and a doting grandfather. He was giving of all he had for anyone in need, and he instilled his commitment to Jesus Christ in family and friends. After briefly moving to Gainesville, Texas, Neil worked for Allstate Insurance before being called into the ministry in 1971. He pastored a small Assembly of God in Marshall, but moved back home to Ardmore in 1974 to pastor Central Assembly of God until 1982. He then became an insurance agent with Farm Bureau and Shield of Shelter, moving to Stillwater in 1988 as District Sales Manager before retiring and moving back to Ardmore in 2004. He was a member of the Lone Grove Assembly of God where he served as a deacon.

Preceding him in death was his father, Keith W. (Jack) Cox.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda Cox; his mother, Faye Cox of Ardmore; three sons, Tracy Cox and wife, Lee of Plano, Texas, Todd Cox and wife, Mandi of Ardmore and Trent Cox and wife, Rachel of Allen, Texas; two sisters, Sharon Murphree and husband Ron of Poteau and Tonya Keeton and husband, Gary of Ardmore; a brother; Chris Cox and wife Kathy of Oswalt and five grandchildren, Brycen, Madison, Taverly, Kylie and Tyneson.

Serving as pallbearers were Mike Coffman, Gary Keeton, Danny Godfrey, Alvin Carroll, Alan Copeland and Ricky Beane. Honorary bearers were his many special friends and family.

Memorials may be made to the Lone Grove Assembly of God c/o Alexander Funeral Home, 1302 7th St., Wilson, OK 73463.
