Services for Keith W. “Jack” Cox, 80, of Ardmore, were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 26, at Crystalrock Cathedral in Ardmore with the Rev. Dwain Duck and Dr. Walt Spradling officiating.

Mr. Cox was born September 12, 1922, at Oswalt, the son of J.A. “Bill” and Eula Carlile Cox. He died Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at the Ardmore Veterans Center where he had lived the last two years.

He and Alta Faye Beavers were married May 28, 1942, one week after they graduated from Courtney High School. Mr. Cox entered into the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II, stationed at San Diego, California, Norman and Pearl Harbor. After his honorable discharge, he returned to college, graduating from Murray State College and receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Mr. Cox taught school for over 30 years, teaching at Courtney, Meadowbrook, Leon, Turner, and the last 20 years at Gene Autry, before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church many years, where he taught the Adult Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Faye of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Neil and Linda Cox of Stillwater and Chris and Kathy Cox of Ardmore; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ron Murphree of Poteau, and Tonya and Gary Keeton of Ardmore; 10 grandchildren, Karen and Joey Pica, Tracy and Lee Cox, Todd and Mandi Cox, Lori and Tim Autumn, Cassiti and Laramie Keeton; two step-grandsons, Brent and Kent Murphree; four step-great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Barnthouse, Isabella Pica and Brycen Cox; three brothers, Bob, Dean and Jim Cox; and three sisters, Faye McComber, Sue Chambers and Joann Hyder.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delbert, Punch and Hap Cox; and three sisters, Juanita Dane, Aleta Gray and Billie Lou Griffin.

Serving as pallbearers were some of his former students, E.L. Morton, Wayne Alexander, Harvey Grant, Don Davenport, Gene Jackson and Jimmy Davenport. Honorary pallbearers were all of his students and his extended family at the Ardmore Veterans Center.

Interment was in the Oswalt Cemetery, under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.
