Interment followed in the Orr Cemetery.
Born August 30, 1953 at Ringling, the daughter of Earl Ray and Letta Faye Johnson Hicks, she died Saturday, August 19, 2017 at her residence. Cheryl, a resident of Love County most of her life, attended school at Wilson to the fourth grade and then was a student at Turner School. She and Vernie Lee Thompson were married at Ryan on August 3, 1970. Cheryl continued her education, receiving an associate’s degree from Murray State College, Tishomingo, and a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant. She was employed as a teacher assistant at Turner School for 30 years and was also a medical transcriptionist. In her spare time Cheryl loved to fish.
Preceding her in death were
her parents and her first grandson, Everet Ray Mills on June 14,
2014.
Survivors include her husband
of 47 years, Vernie of the home; five sons, Alan Thompson and Joe
Leverett of Oklahoma City; Bryan Thompson and wife Courtney of
Valley View, Texas, and Kyle Thompson and Dennis Wayman, both of
Rubottom; daughter, Angela Thompson of Marietta; four brothers,
Randy Hicks and wife Mary of Burneyville, Lyndal Hicks of Overbrook,
Tony Hicks of Rubottom, and Robin Hicks of Overbrook; special
sister, Jackie Williams of Ringling; and granddaughter, Sophia Faye
Thompson.
Serving as pallbearers were Steven Hicks, Heath Hicks, Josh Hicks, Kenneth Thompson, Duane Thompson, and Jay Williams. Honorary bearers were Dustin Hicks, Jerry Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Chuck Thompson, Ace Thompson, Tim Thompson, Albert Thompson, James Thompson, Gary Thompson, Terry Thompson, James Williams, and Roger Hodgson.
