Services for Betty Jewel Young, 80, of Thackerville were held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 13 in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta with Bro. Murray McMurray and Pastor Mike Burnett officiating.
Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville.
Born July 20, 1930, at Thackerville, the daughter of William Felix and Juanita Mae Taff Sprouse, she died Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant. Mrs. Young had been a resident of Thackerville since 1968, previously living in the Fort Worth/Azle, Texas area for 42 years and also in Colorado. She and Ancle Lee Young were married at Gainesville, Texas on June 15, 1955, and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2007. An excellent cook, Mrs. Young was especially known for her cinnamon rolls, bread rolls and peach cobbler. She worked as a cook in the Thackerville School Cafeteria, retiring after many years. She also enjoyed reading, quilting and traveling, having traveled throughout the United States. Mrs. Young was a very devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Thackerville First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Anna Mae Prock; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Sprouse.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Shannon Young of Thackerville and Buster and Tina Young of Weatherford, Texas; two daughters and son-in-law, Debra and Mike Lauderback of Era, Texas and Barbara Rains of Gainesville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Felix David “Bud” Sprouse, William Burnett “Bill” and Martha Sprouse and Marshall Wayne and Betty Sprouse, all of Thackerville; two sisters and brother-in-law, Alice Lee and Jerry Adams of Midwest City and Vivian Edna Reeves of Mead; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Jimmy Don Kelly, Colt Young, Mike Pinnizzotto, “B.J.” Barry Woodard, Sheldon Roberson and Danny Gillham. Honorary bearers were William Clint Cain, Jimmy Welch, James Hice, Harold Scott, Blake Seal and Bryan Nottingham.
