Margie "Sue" Whittington was born on December 30, 1939, in Elmore City,
OK to Edgar Stevens and Odessa Fern (Neal) Tate. She passed away on
Monday, January 29, 2024, at Medical City in Denton, TX at the age of
84.
Sue lived most of her life in Love County, and enjoyed gardening,
playing the guitar, singing, writing poetry, and watching soap operas.
She was of the Christian faith and spent most of her life as a homemaker
raising her family.
Sue married Kenneth Wayne Whittington on May 26, 1956, in Gainesville,
TX. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2011.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her
son-in-law, Cliff Hurley; and brothers, Kenny, Dale, Robert, Billy, and
Johnny Tate; sisters, Beverly Carmon and Iona Skidmore.
Those left to carry on Sue's legacy include her sons, Tony Whittington
of Gainesville, Gary Whittington and Roger Whittington, both of
Thackerville, OK; daughter, Rita Hurley of Fort Worth, TX;
grandchildren, Erin Rowan and husband Matt of Henderson, NV, and Lindsey
Reiling and husband Mike of Lipan, TX; great-grandchildren, Callie,
Hailey, Austin, Nolan, Carson, and one-on-the-way, Miss Josie; sisters,
Shirley Eyster of Justin, TX, Joan Shaffer of Thackerville, Cindy
Freeman of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters-in-law, Lillie Tate of Euless, TX
and Francis Tate of Haltom City, TX; brother-in-law, Homer Carmon of
Ringling, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Sue will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024,
at the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, OK with Bro. Brett Alberda
officiating.
Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1,
from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel in
Marietta, OK.
Serving as casket bearers are Richard Whittington, Ronnie Whittington,
Allen Whittington, Stephen Whittington, Danny Kretzschmar, and Dennis
Kretzschmar. Honorary bearer will be Edward Whittington.
