Early morning on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, the world lost a hardworking family man, Charles H. Whittington, Jr at the age of 96 at his residence in Thackerville. His journey in life began in Jimtown, OK on April 6, 1926, the son of Charles H. and Dovie (Thedford) Whittington.

Charles lived most of his life in Thackerville and was a graduate of Thackerville High School. He met the love of his life Betty Jo Wade and they wed on May 5, 1947, in Gainesville, TX. She preceded him in death on September 5, 2013, after celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary. They were members of the First Baptist Church in Thackerville. Charles was a manager at the Red River Farm Co-Op for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason. Charles enjoyed being outdoors caring for the yard, farming, and brush hogging. Charles was a strong man, a provider, and a protector and was devoted to his family.

Those left to carry on his memory are his son, Dale Whittington and wife Mary Kay of Thackerville; daughters, Sue Ann Jones and husband Danny of Thackerville and LaDonna Knox of De Kalb, TX; son-in-law, Rick Taylor of Walters, OK; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Marquita Taylor; granddaughters, Ginger Whittington and Jessica Taylor; several brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Bob Knox.

Graveside services for Charles will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville with Rev. David Earl Whittington officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.
