Graveside services for Larry Ancil West, 61, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 28 at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville.

Born October 9, 1958 at Gainesville, Texas, the son of Lucian Ancil “L.A.” West and Helen Ritcherson Sears West, he went to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 24, 2020 following a short stay in Medical City Lewisville, Lewisville, Texas. Larry attended school both in Thackerville and Gainesville. He graduated from Cooke County College (now North Central Texas College). As a young boy he was baptized at Harvey Street Baptist Church.

He was very patriotic and loved his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from November 1975 to May 1985. His service time was something he took great pride in discussing with anyone who would listen, and he did have many stories. Larry married Elizabeth “Liz” Tamplin Smith on March 28, 1992. He was proud to claim his ready-made family and even happier when the family began to grow. To this union a son, Michael Keith and a daughter, Elise Nicole were born. Better employment opportunities took him to the Metroplex where he enhanced his technology skills significantly and grew to have his own business. He was a competitive person who loved games of all types and would work hard to win. Larry also enjoyed bowling and earned many trophies for the sport. Boating and fishing were two of his passions, so a weekend or vacation at the lake brought him great joy. His love for motorcycles began at the early age of 10 when he received his first dirt bike. As long as he was able, he rode and traveled on one of his many machines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Mike McHorse; and nephew, Chad Reed.

Survivors include his sons, Steven Smith and wife Amanda of Little Elm, Texas and Michael Keith West of Lewisville; daughter, Elise Driver and husband Toby of Lewisville; sister, Elaine McHorse of Gainesville; and two grandchildren, Sebastian and Aria Smith.
