Graveside services for Roy Weldon Wade, 6, of Thackerville were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville with Brother Murray McMurray officiating.
Born November 22, 1951, at Gainesville, Texas, the son of Johnny Boy “Jiggs” and Bevily Pauline Ford Wade, he died Friday, May 4, 2018, in Medical City of Denton, Texas.
Raised on naval bases while his father served in the U.S. Navy, Roy graduated from Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley, California. He and Georgia Burton were married January 3, 1981 in Thackerville. Roy began his career working in construction for Shaffer Construction, then as a dispatcher for Davis Concrete, followed by employment with Jerry McGill Construction, and then self-employed as Wade Construction building metal buildings and doing concrete work. His hobbies included attending bluegrass festivals, especially in the Arbuckle Mountains, making beef jerky, going to the coffee shop and visiting with friends. Roy also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports activities and rodeos. He was an OU Sooner football fan, and his favorite pro player was Big Ben of the Pittsburg Steelers. He loved watching Big Ben “walk it down the field.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jiggs and Bevily Wade; nephew, Smokey Wade; brother-in-law, Charlie Hughes; aunt, Betty Whittington; and uncle, James Wade.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia of the home; two sons, Chris Jones and wife Tracy of Madill and Johnny Wade and wife Jessica of Denton; two daughters, Kimberly Cunningham of Sanger, Texas and Jeri McCage and husband Chuck of Thackerville; brother, Gene Wade and wife Midge of Thackerville; 12 grandchildren, Kaile Jones, Brittany Jones, Chelsee Jones, Rylee Jones, Jayci Wright, Ella Cunningham, Nolan Wade, Harper Wade, Colby Wade, Shae McCage, Tyler Wade, and Emily McCage; and two great-grandchildren, Leila Raines and Brooks Timmons.
Serving as pallbearers were Gary Buckaloo, Ralph Buckaloo, Bo Buckaloo, Tony Hollar, Henry Burton, and David West. Honorary bearers were Chuck McCage, Tyler Wade, Gene Wade, Ronnie Voyles, Randy Hart, Randy Liddell, James Lucas, Brian Liddell, Zack Liddell, Vernon Hughes, Clayton Hughes, John Marshall, and Steve Reeves.
