Thomas Richard Scott, 73, was born on December 29, 1949, at Gainesville, Texas to Leonard Frank Scott and Clara Imogene Teague. He died Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at North Texas Medical Center, Gainesville.

Tommy lived his childhood and young adult years at Thackerville. He married Sherry Reed-Milam in 1969 before spending 13 months serving in Vietnam. Upon his return they welcomed three daughters into the world. He worked primarily in the propane service industry, providing for his family. As life progressed, his marriage to Sherry ended, but their friendship and desire to raise their children well remained.

He married Jeannie Sue Millican in 1987, making their home in Gainesville. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage, loving and caring for one another in the sweetest way. Together, they bought and cared for their property in Thackerville, intending to move there eventually. After his retirement from Peterbilt, Tommy could be seen driving over to "the place" almost daily. Although you would be hard pressed to get him to admit it, he took great care of the herd of semi-feral cats that found their way to Tommy and Jeannie's land over the years.

Tommy was a war hero, although he would never call himself that. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He had the humblest of spirits and expected nothing he didn't work to earn. He loved to spend time with his brothers, laughing and ribbing one another in the way only brothers can, but always having each other's backs. Tommy's quick-witted and sometimes self-deprecating sense of humor would leave people in stitches. At other times, he was quiet and slow to speak because he was a deep thinker. He avoided crowds, when he could, yet loved being with the people he loved.

He accepted Jesus and was baptized into the Christian faith as a child. Although faith was something he didn't speak freely about very often, he had a strong belief in God that guided his choices. His life was filled with examples of the fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elaine Winters and Frankie Ellison; and brother, Ira Scott.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly Capehart of Perry, Robin Kime and husband Jayson of Thackerville, and Susanne Norris and husband Scott of Vancouver, Canada; grandchildren, Trinity Dewbre, Grady Capehart, Sethan Reed, Abby Capehart, Lyric Kime, and Andrew, Phillip, Gideon and Juniper Norris; great-grandchildren, Ember Reed-Ramirez and Emmett Dewbre; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores Milam and husband David and Martha Smith and husband Mark; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard "Dale" Scott and wife Laujuana, Harold Scott and wife Rita, and Gary Scott; aunt, Maudene Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at the Thackerville Community Church with interment following at Mount Zion Cemetery, Thackerville.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Grady Capehart and Sethan Reed, sons-in-law, Jayson Kime and Scott Norris, grandson-in-law, David Dewbre, and friend, John Graham. Honorary bearers were brothers, Dale, Harold and Gary Scott, grandsons, Andrew, Phillip, and Gideon Norris, and "husband-in-law" (as he fondly called him), Charles Milam.
