On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, the world lost a humble and kind man, David Keith "Spanky" McCage, 74. He passed away at his residence surrounded by his family. His journey in life began in Thackerville on November 29, 1946, one of the middle children born to Burton and Ruby Jo Northcutt McCage.

Spanky was a lifelong area resident and a 1965 Thackerville High School graduate. He enlisted in the United States Army National Guard on January 7, 1966 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on January 6, 1972. During his time in the service, Spanky married the love of his life Barbara Sue Bond on October 13, 1966 in Thackerville. After his time in the service, he went back to work for the United States Postal Service and retired after 41 years.

Spanky was a member of the Baptist Church in Thackerville. He enjoyed playing all sports, and as he got older, golf became his number one hobby. He loved going to the coffee shop. Although he had several hobbies he enjoyed, nothing topped spending time with his grandkids and attending their sporting events. Spanky was known for his dedication and love for his family.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Sue McCage of the home; sons, Mark Eugene McCage and wife Beddie of Thackerville and Shane Keith McCage of Thackerville; daughter, Tina Sue Knabe and husband Michael of Era, Texas; brother, Charles Burton "Shorty" McCage and wife Judy of Thackerville; sisters, Betty Camelia Barnes and Pamela Joy Pearman, both of Thackerville; grandchildren, Hunter, Logan, Tanner, Hayley, Lex, Briana, and Raegan; great-grandchildren, Mark Holden, Cason Lee, and Wyatt Keith; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family members.

Spanky was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Ruby Jo McCage; and brothers, Donald, Joe and Jim McCage.

Services for Spanky were held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 12 at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta with Brother Murray McMurray officiating and Elder Charles "Shorty" McCage assisting. Interment followed at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville.

Serving as pallbearers were Hunter McCage, Tanner McCage, Lex Knabe, Chance Pearson, Colten Hiegel, and Anthony Menge. Honorary bearers were Carl Alford, Delmar Shurbet, John Smith, C.A. Robinson, and his golfing buddies.
