Graveside services for Velester “MeMaw” Cain, 92, of Thackerville
were held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 22 in Mount Zion Cemetery,
Thackerville, with Bro. Murray McMurray officiating.
Born September 24, 1920 in Connerville, the daughter of Oscar and
Pecolia Sampson Orr, she died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Mercy
Health Love County Hospital, Marietta.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Cain of
Marietta, Harroll and Peggy Cain of Forestburg, Texas and Darrell
and Janie Cain of Thackerville; four daughters and sons-in-law,
Claudia and Dean Pearman, Gerri and Delmar Shurbet, and Terri and
Jerry Bone, all of Thackerville, and Carol Shankles of Marietta;
sister-in-law, Ethylene Craft of Thackerville; special niece and
nephew, Judy Spradling and Roger Craft of Oklahoma City; 17
grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her
parents; three grandsons, Bobby Dean Pearman and Stacey and Tracey
Cain; great-grandson, Trenton Shurbet; daughter-in-law, Rowena Cain;
son-in-law, Bill Shankles; and brother, Lee Craft.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Cody Cain, Jason Bone, Rod Shankles,
Clint Cain, Dean Schaffer, Wes Cain and Layton Shurbet. A special
pallbearer was grandson, Jeff Bone. Honorary pallbearers were
grandchildren, Melodie Schaffer, Sharon Hard, Rhonda Fox, Forrest
Cain, Clay Shurbet, Chris Shurbet, Erica Brown, Keri Cain, Brandon
Hicks, Dustine Jones and Dr. Tom O’Connor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in
care of the funeral home.
