Orvil Brown, 81-year-old lifelong Thackerville, OK resident, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at his home.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville with Bro. Murray McMurray officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home in Marietta, OK.

Orvil began this life on March 23, 1943, in the family home at Thackerville, the son of “Judge” and Ola M. (Walt) Brown. Orvil grew up and attended schools in Thackerville, graduating with the Class of 1961. He married the love of his life, Carell Ann Gilmore, on May 24, 1968, in Gainesville, TX. The two have celebrated more than 56 years together.

Orvil served as the Love County District #3 Commissioner for two terms. He later retired after several years operating heavy equipment with Overland Construction in Ardmore, OK. In his younger years, Orvil chased the rodeo circuit. He rode bareback broncs and did a lot of pick-up work during rodeos. Orvil also partnered up from time-to-time and did some team roping. He loved spending time outdoors coon hunting, fishing, and he even raised a fighting chicken or two. Orvil was the type that never met a stranger and was known as a “Professional B.S.’er” to many. He did a lot of things that kept him busy or that satisfied his time, but the thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his grandchildren.

Orvil was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Brown; sister, Modena Coulter; and a great-grandchild, Atticus Brown. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Carell of the home; sons, Orvil Rex Brown of Thackerville and Jim Brown and wife Mitzi of Durant, OK; daughter, Krissi Johnston and husband Justin of Springer, OK; grandchildren, Justin Simmons of Muenster, TX, Taylor Koonce of Springer, Jarret Johnston of Springer, Jaycee Johnston of Springer, Jordyn Johnston of Springer, Creston Brown of Durant, Tawny Brown of Durant, and Spur Brown of Durant; and great-grandchildren, Astrid Brown of Durant and Iris Brown of Durant.

Honorary bearers are Chris McMahon, Wesley Smith, Don Scivally, Jimmy Davis, James Lucas, Rex Parker, Sonny Mobley, and Franco Soto.
