Services with military honors for Jerry Wayne Allen, 78, of Thackerville were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in the First Baptist Church, Thackerville with Pastor John Straughn officiating.
Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville.
Born February 8, 1943 in Bonner Springs, Kansas, the son of Jesse and Mildred Smith Allen, he died Friday, February 26, 2021 at his residence. Jerry was a longtime area resident.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 31, 1960 and was honorably discharged April 24, 1964. After his service, he married the love of his life Ruth Whittington on August 26, 1964 in Muskogee. Jerry was a welder. He loved fishing, collecting knives and playing the harmonica. Jerry was a member of the Church of God in Longview, Texas and a current member of the Thackerville First Baptist Church. Although he had many interests, spending time with his family was his favorite.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Angela Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Allen of the home; son, Jerry Allen, Jr. and wife Jill of Gilmer, Texas; sisters, Norma Lankston of Victoria, Texas, Jo Rackley of Charlotte, North Carolina, Patricia Hilton of Tulsa, and Shirley Oxley of Tulsa; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Greg Hicks, Richard Whittington, Ronnie Whittington, Allan Whittington, Spencer Copeland, and Jonaha Copeland. Honorary bearers were Edward Whittington, Steven Whittington, Steve Oxley, Bryan Voyles, Chad Whittington, Ryan Whittington, Trey Copeland, Danie Jones, Michael Whittington, Jesse Norris, Taylor Allen, and Rusty Ogden.
