Bobby Gene Hodges, 78, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, surrounded
by his loved ones at his home at Simon. Services were held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, November 10 in the chapel of Alexander Gray Funeral Home,
Wilson, with Jeremy Suratt and Jason Williams officiating.
Interment
followed at Morgan Rest Cemetery, Simon.
Bobby was born May 7, 1943, at Simon to Bob Ivan and Sarah Grace Morgan
Hodges. He graduated high school from Turner in 1961 and then attended
college at Tishomingo. He grew up loving to play American Legion
baseball. He started working in the oil field and on August 4, 1971,
began working at Uniroyal Tire Company where he worked for 30 years,
retiring in 2001. Bobby enjoyed attending all Wilson athletic games,
long after his children had graduated. He would attend or travel to any
Wilson Eagle game to watch any Wilson student who requested he come
watch. He married Barbara Joe Epperson in July 1992. They lived on their
farm in Simon where they enjoyed thee farm life and raising cattle and
grandchildren, which he always said was about the same.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jerry P Surratt.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hodges of the home; daughters,
Melissa Hodges and Christi Jones of Simon, Robin Whatley and husband
Jeff of Wilson, Becky Green and husband Randy of Overbrook, and Vivian
Doherty and spouse Pat Doherty of Memphis, Tennessee; son, Frank Hodges
and wife Teresa of Simon; grandchildren, Bradden Whatley and Jacobi of
Norman, Cassidy Ramsey and CJ of Wilson, Matt Hodges and Sarah, Wes
Hodges, John Hodges, and Josh Hodges, all of Denton, Texas, CJ
Hilgenberg and Travis of Vermont, Macy Owens of Arkansas, Peyton Henry
Hodges, Jeremy Surratt and Kristina of Simon, Brandi Surratt of McCrory,
Brett Stump of Little Rock, Arkansas and Leslie Welch and Jamie of San
Antonio; great-grandchildren, Jensyn Whatley, Hawk Whatley, Sydney Deen
and Tegan Surratt; sisters, Sue Ann Davis and Lynn of Simon, Nancy
Gunter and Larry of Wilson, and Deborah Cain and Sam of Marietta;
brother, Butch Tucker of Simon; and numerous other family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Jeremy Surratt, Braden Whatley, Matt Hodges,
CJ Ramsey, Wes Hodges, John Hodges and Josh Hodges. Honorary bearers
were Ernest Morgan, Danny Gray and his co-workers at Michelin Tire
Plant.
