Billy Ray Robinson Oct 26,1937 - Sep 13, 2021
Posted by Martha Reddout
Graveside services with military honors for Billy Ray Robinson, 83, formerly
of Leon, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 17 in the Leon Cemetery with
Pastor Brett Alberda officiating.
Born October 26, 1937 at Rubottom, the son of Mervin Braz and Virgie
Madge Powell Robinson, he died Monday, September 13, 2021 at his home in
Fort Worth, Texas.
Billy grew up and attended school in Leon, graduating with the Class of
1955. He planned on furthering his education at Murray State College in
Tishomingo on a basketball scholarship they granted him, but his time
there was cut short when Uncle Sam came looking for a few good men. He
was drafted into the U.S. Navy on March 1, 1956. Billy worked aboard a
ship with the Signal Corps until his honorable discharge in 1957. Little
did he know that when his military service ended, a new improved life
was about to begin. Because soon after, he persuaded the love of his
life, Linda Ashcraft, to marry him on November 16, 1958 in Gainesville,
Texas. The two spent almost 63 years together.
Though the years after his military service led him down a few different
career paths, the final road he took seemed to be the most fitting.
Billy was a people person and absolutely loved visiting, so a position
in the hotel industry was a perfect fit. He worked in the industry from
1972 until he retired.
Billy loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and was proud of the fact that
he never missed watching a game (even though they forgot to show up and
play some of them) in more than 25 years as a fan. He also greatly
enjoyed all the time he spent with his grandchildren. He loved following
them all over the place to ballgames and school events.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy Robinson.
Billy will be significantly missed by his wife, Linda of the home; a
son, Billy Lynn Robinson of Fort Worth; daughter-in-law, Toni Robinson
of Fort Worth; sister, Claudelle Higgins of Marietta; and two
grandchildren, Taylor Robinson and Brandy Robinson.
